Zeds Dead have unexpectedly unveiled their third studio album, Return to the Return of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, continuing the expansive creative universe first introduced on their acclaimed 2025 record, Return To The Spectrum Of Intergalactic Happiness.
Rather than functioning as a conventional sequel, the 14-track project revisits and expands the world established on its predecessor. Across the album, Dylan Mamid (DC) and Zachary Rapp-Rovan (Hooks) continue exploring themes of memory, transmission, sampling, and sonic storytelling, creating a body of work that unfolds like a cinematic transmission received from another place and time.
Built around the idea that no sound ever truly disappears, the album imagines a cosmic receiver collecting fragments of humanity’s musical past. Zeds Dead act as translators, reshaping those fragments into a genre-defying listening experience that moves seamlessly between electronic music styles while remaining unmistakably their own.
The album features guest appearances from CUT_ on the electro-punk influenced “In Your Head” and Jem Cooke on the drum & bass-driven “Out of Time.” Instrumental highlights include the expansive breakbeat journey of “Take Our Time” and the UK garage-inspired “Tonight,” where vocal sampling once again becomes a central creative device. Throughout the record, sounds from different eras collide, reflecting the duo’s long-standing fascination with collage, reconstruction, and musical archaeology.
That philosophy extends beyond the production itself. One recurring sample references the notion that sound waves continue travelling through space long after they are created. This idea became the conceptual foundation for both Return To The Spectrum Of Intergalactic Happiness and its companion album, inspiring a fictional universe where forgotten broadcasts from across time are rediscovered and transformed into something entirely new.
The concept also draws inspiration from NASA’s Voyager mission, which famously carried Earth’s Golden Record into deep space. In many ways, Return to the Return of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness mirrors that idea, simultaneously receiving echoes from the past while sending new creative signals into the future.
Zeds Dead on the New Album
Reflecting on the project, the duo shared:
“The initial Return to the Spectrum felt like the birth of a new era for us. We hadn’t written a proper full-length project in almost ten years and a lot had happened in that time – ups and downs, soul searching, creative experiments, COVID. We knew we wanted to throw ourselves fully into another project, but the timing had to reveal itself. When it did, it felt right. With this album, we’re continuing on the same path we started then. Returning to it, if you will.”
“The most important thing for us was how we approached making this record. It wasn’t about what might work best at a show or what the single was. It was 100% about letting inspiration take us wherever it wanted to go. We followed ideas because they excited us, not because they fit into any expectation of what a Zeds Dead record should be.”
While the previous album explored the experience of flipping through broadcasts across time, the new record turns inward. It reflects on years of touring, experimentation, collaboration, and artistic evolution, examining what remains after more than a decade of constant creative movement.
Its source material spans centuries of recorded history, incorporating everything from recent Zeds Dead recordings and vintage hypnosis tapes to compositions by Frédéric Chopin, seamlessly weaving together vastly different eras into a single narrative.
The album was recorded across an ever-changing collection of studios and temporary workspaces throughout North America and Europe. During the process, the duo reunited with longtime friend and turntablism icon Skratch Bastid, whose scratches feature on “Pourin Rain” and “Fallin Down” after an unexpected airport security encounter sparked the collaboration.
Celebrating a Landmark Year
The surprise release arrives during a milestone year for the Toronto duo as they celebrate 15 years of Zeds Dead and the 10th anniversary of their independent label, Deadbeats.
The album also precedes the launch of Journey of a Lifetime, the biggest headline tour of their career. The large-scale amphitheatre tour will travel across the United States and Canada, bringing the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness universe to life through an entirely reimagined visual production inspired by television broadcasts, space exploration, and cinematic storytelling.
Designed as a retrospective and celebration of the duo’s career, the tour spans every era of Zeds Dead’s catalogue, from their earliest MySpace releases and Bassmentality edits through platinum-certified records, festival favourites, and their latest studio material.
A rotating line-up of support artists will appear throughout the run, including ALLEYCVT, Daily Bread, Deathpact, Dr. Fresch, IMANU, Ivy Lab, Mary Droppinz, Moody Good, and Whethan.
Zeds Dead on Journey of a Lifetime
The duo explained:
“Journey of a lifetime is one of the first tracks we uploaded to the World Wide Web as Zeds Dead way back in 2009. 17 years later, it feels like it was a prophecy. We might have not realized it at the time, but we were in fact blasting off into space and leaving behind life as we knew it. This journey is your journey with us as well. We’ve grown up together and celebrated life. We’ve created a world together and the Journey of a Lifetime tour aims to be our most thorough exploration of it. This will be our biggest tour yet as its taking place in large outdoor venues and we’re going to make it the best show we can make. It will be the grand finale of everything we’ve been working on. It’s not the end though. To quote something we sampled in a beat once “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” We’ll be taking some time off in 2027 so we’re going all out on production, new music, and stage design to bring you a new show that will take you on a magical journey. A journey of a lifetime. See you there.”

About Zeds Dead
Since emerging from Toronto’s underground music scene in 2009, Zeds Dead have become one of electronic music’s most influential and enduring acts. Known for their fearless genre experimentation, cinematic production style, and sample-driven approach, the duo have consistently pushed beyond traditional boundaries while cultivating one of dance music’s most dedicated global fan communities.
Their breakthrough came through early viral remixes and relentless touring before the release of their debut album Northern Lights in 2016. That same year, they launched Deadbeats, an independent label that has grown into one of bass music’s most respected platforms, championing both established names and emerging artists.
With Return to the Return of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, Zeds Dead continue to evolve creatively while staying true to the curiosity and experimentation that have defined their career for more than 15 years. The album stands as both a continuation of an ambitious artistic vision and a reminder that their most compelling work continues to look forward while drawing inspiration from the echoes of the past.
