Built for the club long before it was ever intended for release, Don Diablo’s reworking of A$AP Ferg’s iconic “Plain Jane” officially arrives today via HEXAGON. What began as a high-impact weapon created exclusively for Don’s live sets has evolved into an official collaboration between the Dutch electronic heavyweight and one of Harlem’s most distinctive hip-hop voices.
Don Diablo first created his version of “Plain Jane” while touring Saudi Arabia alongside Quavo and Metro Boomin. At the time, releasing the track was not part of the plan. It was designed purely for the dancefloor, giving Don something unexpected and explosive to drop into his sets. But as he continued playing it around the world, the response became impossible to ignore. Each performance brought a bigger reaction, and the rework gradually established itself as one of the standout moments of his live show.
That organic momentum ultimately pushed Don back into the studio to refine the record for an official release. The finished collaboration brings together A$AP Ferg’s unmistakable vocal presence and Don Diablo’s club-focused electronic production, transforming a modern hip-hop anthem into a fresh crossover built for festival stages and dancefloors.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Ferg, and ‘Plain Jane’ is an absolute anthem. I originally made my version as a weapon for my sets while I was touring through Saudi Arabia with Quavo and Metro Boomin. I never really intended to release it, but every time I played it, the reaction got bigger. It just kept growing organically until it became one of the biggest moments in my set. Since then I’ve been perfecting the record, so the fact that Ferg and I are now able to release it together as an official collaboration feels full circle. Sonically, it’s the perfect marriage between where I come from as a producer and where my sound is heading next.” – Don Diablo
“Plain Jane” also continues a growing run of hip-hop collaborations from Don Diablo. Following his March release with Wiz Khalifa, the new record serves as a natural next chapter and offers another glimpse into the direction of his forthcoming FLUX album. The project has already produced collaborations with Wiz Khalifa, Bipolar Sunshine and Pink Sweat$, reflecting Don’s continued push beyond traditional genre boundaries.
For A$AP Ferg, “Plain Jane” remains one of the defining records of his career. The original has surpassed 800 million streams on Spotify, while its various versions have collectively crossed the billion-stream mark. Years after its initial arrival on Ferg’s 2017 mixtape Still Striving, the track remains firmly embedded in contemporary hip-hop culture.
Now, its latest incarnation brings the record into a new environment without losing the attitude that made the original resonate. Don Diablo builds around Ferg’s instantly recognisable performance with a production designed for maximum club impact, connecting hip-hop energy with his own electronic DNA.
The collaboration arrives at a significant point in Don’s evolving sound. While his career has been built on electronic music, his recent releases increasingly explore the space between genres, bringing together artists and influences that might traditionally exist in separate worlds. “Plain Jane” captures that evolution directly, combining the foundations of Don’s production style with the direction he is taking into the FLUX era.

About A$AP Ferg
Harlem-born rapper A$AP Ferg emerged as a founding member of A$AP Mob before establishing himself as one of the collective’s breakout solo artists. Initially known as the group’s primary clothing designer, Ferg eventually turned his unconventional production choices, energetic performances and instantly recognisable vocal delivery into the foundations of a successful recording career.
His breakthrough arrived in 2012 with “Work,” a standout track from A$AP Mob’s Lords Never Worry mixtape. The record helped lead to an RCA deal and later received an all-star remix featuring Trinidad James, French Montana and ScHoolboy Q.
Ferg carried that momentum into his debut studio album Trap Lord in 2013, followed by Always Strive and Prosper in 2016. Both projects reached the Top Ten, with the latter featuring collaborators including Missy Elliott, Chuck D, Skrillex and Lil Uzi Vert.
His 2017 mixtape Still Striving introduced “Plain Jane,” which became his highest-charting solo track and one of the defining releases of his catalogue. The project also featured an “East Coast” remix alongside Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross.
Ferg continued expanding his catalogue with the Floor Seats EP in 2019 and Floor Seats II in 2020, working with artists including Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Ty Dolla $ign. Subsequent releases have included “Green Juice” with Pharrell Williams and 2024’s “Off White Rozay.”
With “Plain Jane” now officially reimagined alongside Don Diablo, one of Ferg’s signature records enters a new chapter, bringing its unmistakable hip-hop energy to Don’s expanding electronic universe.
