Australian electronic producer and trap music pioneer What So Not has officially entered a new creative chapter with the announcement of his forthcoming project and tour, I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY.
The announcement marks a reflective and highly personal moment in the career of one of the artists widely credited with helping shape the rise of cinematic trap and experimental bass music during the 2010s. Through emotionally charged production, genre-defying songwriting, and a distinct approach to sound design, What So Not became a defining figure during a period that transformed festival culture, online music communities, and the global electronic music landscape.
With I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY, What So Not revisits the energy and emotional impact of the early trap era while filtering it through more than a decade of artistic evolution. Drawing from the raw unpredictability of early SoundCloud culture, formative collaborations, and years spent exploring drum & bass, analog textures, cinematic composition, and global rhythmic influences, the project reflects both nostalgia and reinvention without attempting to recreate the past.
Alongside the project rollout, What So Not will embark on the I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY U.S. Tour, a run of intimate club shows and festival appearances designed to capture the closeness and intensity that defined the early trap and bass movement. The tour includes stops at Denver’s Club Vinyl, Portland’s 45 East, Las Vegas’ Substance, and Marquee NY, in addition to appearances at Lost In Dreams and Das Energi.
Since emerging onto the global stage with breakout releases including “High You Are” (Branchez Remix), What So Not has built a catalog recognized for its emotional depth, cinematic scale, and boundary-pushing production. From fan favorites like “Gemini” and “Jaguar” to his acclaimed reinterpretation of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom,” he has consistently balanced experimentation with emotionally resonant songwriting.
Speaking about the new project, What So Not shared:
“For a long time I found myself running away from a sound I helped create. In my journey to always do the ‘next’ thing, I think I neglected my thing. This project comes from finally reconnecting with that energy — not to recreate the past, but to understand why it resonated so deeply in the first place.”
“I feel like I’m finally writing the music everybody wants from me — but on my own terms, on my own time, with the tools of a lifetime chasing ‘what’s next’.”
Over the course of his career, What So Not has collaborated with artists including Skrillex, RL Grime, Oliver Tree, Killer Mike, Toto, and Daniel Johns, while amassing more than 1.3 billion global streams across his catalog. His releases, including Not All The Beautiful Things, Anomaly, Motions, and the 2025 collaborative EP The Quiet That Hurts with Dutch producer Buunshin, have showcased an artist constantly evolving beyond genre expectations.
Known for immersive live performances blending cinematic visuals, live instrumentation, and emotionally driven storytelling, What So Not has appeared at major global festivals including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, and Lollapalooza. With I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY, he now returns to the sound and feeling that helped define a generation of electronic music, while reimagining it through years of growth, experimentation, and creative reinvention.
