Three of bass music’s most influential names come together for one of the most anticipated collaborations in recent memory. Zeds Dead, Subtronics, and Tape B have officially released “Word Scramble” via Deadbeats, marking a rare moment where three distinct creative forces converge on a single record.
The track first gained momentum during the trio’s B3B set at Decadence Denver on New Year’s Eve. From that moment, it quickly spread across live sets, fan recordings, and online discussions, building a strong presence without ever being formally released. That extended anticipation only amplified its impact, turning “Word Scramble” into one of the most talked-about IDs in recent bass music memory.
Now released in its complete form, the track reflects a seamless blend of each artist’s sonic identity. Zeds Dead bring their signature cinematic depth and heavy low-end foundation, Subtronics layers in intricate, forward-thinking sound design, and Tape B injects a raw, nostalgic dubstep energy. The result is a track that balances familiarity with progression, staying rooted in bass music’s origins while pushing its current sound forward.
The release arrives at a significant moment for all three artists. Zeds Dead recently announced Journey of a Lifetime, the biggest tour of their 15-year career, alongside celebrating a decade of Deadbeats, their independent label that has become a key platform in the global bass scene. Tape B continues to build momentum, returning to Miami for a B2B set with Zeds Dead during Deadbeats’ Miami Music Week takeover and preparing for his largest tour to date with a North American amphitheater run alongside Levity. Subtronics, meanwhile, is entering a major festival cycle, including appearances across both weekends of Coachella, reinforcing his position as one of the leading figures in contemporary electronic music.
MORE ON ZEDS DEAD
Emerging from Toronto’s underground scene, Zeds Dead, comprised of Dylan Mamid (DC) and Zachary Rapp-Rovan (Hooks), have spent over 15 years shaping the global bass music landscape. Known for their genre-fluid approach, cinematic sampling, and immersive performances, the duo has built a career that consistently evolves while remaining rooted in their original creative ethos.
Their journey began with early collaborations under the name Mass Productions, driven by a shared interest in hip-hop, graffiti, and crate-digging culture. In 2009, they adopted the name Zeds Dead and began releasing music independently, while also launching Bassmentality, a weekly event in Toronto that played a key role in developing the city’s early dubstep scene.
Early traction came through standout remixes, including their widely recognized take on Blue Foundation’s “Eyes on Fire,” which became a defining moment in their rise. Support from BBC Radio 1 and a growing international audience led to extensive touring across North America and Europe, establishing them as a global presence within a short span.
Their debut album Northern Lights arrived in 2016, featuring collaborations with artists such as Pusha T, Diplo, and Rivers Cuomo. The same year, they launched Deadbeats, which has since grown into a globally respected label known for spotlighting forward-thinking artists including REZZ, Subtronics, IMANU, and Nostalgix.
In 2025, Zeds Dead released their second studio album Return To The Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, a 14-track project that further expanded their creative range. Drawing from film, hip-hop, and vintage sampling influences, the album reflected both experimentation and a deep connection to their roots.
Today, Zeds Dead continue to operate at the intersection of legacy and innovation. Their touring approach emphasizes immersive, multi-night experiences in key cities, creating destination-style shows that resonate deeply with their audience. With a focus on evolution, independence, and community, they remain one of the most enduring and influential acts in bass music.
