Future House Music (FHM), a trailblazing independent label in the electronic music world, marks its 10th anniversary with the release of a captivating documentary. This film, now available on FHM’s YouTube channel, offers fans an intimate look at the label’s inspiring journey from a humble Facebook fan page to a global powerhouse in the house music scene.
The Early Days: A Dream Takes Shape
Launched in 2014 as a niche Facebook community for future house enthusiasts, FHM quickly became a vibrant hub for fans and artists alike. By 2015, the label made its bold entrance into the music industry, signing its first record—a track by Jonas Aden—and officially beginning its journey as a record label. Over the years, FHM has supported a roster of renowned artists, including Brooks, Wankelmut, Skytech, Tobtok, Sikdope, Sevenn, Redondo, and Tom Westy.
Growth Through Challenges and Milestones
The label’s trajectory accelerated in 2016 with the opening of its first office in Rotterdam, where a dedicated team laid the foundation for FHM’s growth. Reflecting on the early challenges, Aart van den Dool, co-founder and music director, shares, “We had no idea how to hire or lead a team at first. It was a steep learning curve, but it taught us the importance of surrounding ourselves with the right people.”
From hosting its first festival stage at We Are Electric in 2017 to achieving its first viral hit, “Brass,” in 2018, FHM has continuously pushed boundaries. By 2019, the label had reached 1 million YouTube subscribers, cementing its presence in the digital music space.
Despite setbacks, including navigating copyright challenges on YouTube and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, FHM persevered. Landmark achievements such as the launch of the Future House Music Awards in 2020 and their official merch store in 2021 further solidified the label’s connection with its growing fanbase. By 2022, FHM was recognized as the 6th most supported label worldwide among DJs, and in 2023, it expanded globally with showcases across 10 countries.
A Story of Passion, Community, and Vision
The documentary, which premiered earlier this year at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), captures the essence of FHM’s decade-long journey. It highlights pivotal moments, including struggles, triumphs, and the relentless drive that propelled the label to the forefront of the industry.
Co-founder and strategic director Gino van Eijk remarks, “This is not just a celebration. It’s a demonstration of what can be achieved when people work together. Through this documentary, we share our history, vision, and the obstacles we’ve overcome, along with exclusive interviews with artists and industry professionals.”
Aart van den Dool adds, “When we started FHM, we had big dreams but limited resources. Over the years, we’ve created a community where artists feel valued, and we continue to pursue this mission daily. That commitment drives everything we do and makes me incredibly proud of what we’ve built together.”
A Legacy of Innovation and Community
Future House Music remains committed to its core values of supporting emerging talent and building a global community of house music lovers. With an artist-first approach, an active Discord community, and groundbreaking events, FHM continues to shape the sounds of tomorrow while connecting millions worldwide.
